For the past week, I’ve read a lot of blogs and articles. Mostly about how to write ebooks, virtual assistants and how to overcome focused trichotillomania. And of course, my favorite blogs. Then I came across Erica Allison who encouraged others to share their stories; sharers get referrals in return. Yes, you guessed it… I jumped into it! But somehow after I clicked “post”… my story didn’t get through. I figured, it’s awaiting moderation. Well, I’ve written a great one. So might as well put it in here.
Hi, Erica! This is so much fun! Read this a few days back and had it bookmarked as I prepped what to write. My name is Ruzanne and I’ve always dreamed of being a writer.
Anyways, reality sat hard and cold at a young life, and my writing took a backseat so I could get a profitable career. Having a son before I was 20, unwed and alone, and finding income elusive without a degree, I had to finish school and then worked straight out from the graduation recession march! Anyways, I did fine for some time but there was this nagging “incompletion” deep within me. Then I landed a real great opportunity to work for the government sector as an information officer, and I’ve been asked to “ghostwrite” speeches, do major writing and editing of documents and reports and other stuff involving words! Man, it was heaven. Well, kinda. Esp. since there I found my angel husband! 🙂
And so let’s get on to the meaty part before I get too Mills and Boone-y!
I ventured into being a virtual assistant. You wouldn’t believe the variety of tasks I’ve had since 2004! From data entry, internet research, rewriting articles, emails management, a lot of ghost-writing (or ghost-blogging) even simple accounting work! With some extra 12 to 24 hours a week I’d rather spend home, I got hooked on being productive online. I’ve taken all sorts of projects, got rejected, been paid big bucks, had been scammed… I’m way too in-love still with being a virtual assistant and hope other people I know would see it as a good income opportunity. At the same time, I hope they’d see being a VA as an opportunity to grow as a person.
But amid all these, I still wanted to be a writer. Enough (for now, at least) with mushy poetry and lyrics, and all those short stories and for-the-big-screen drafts. Yes, I still do those when the mood hits me. But for now, I just want to build a solid connection between writing and helping out or sharing something of value to others… Hmmm… Like produce an eBook for others who want to be a virtual assistant as well. Or do online work. More so because I’ve come across a lot of un-motivated, de-motivated and mis-informed peeps. I couldn’t just shun away a challenge, esp. if these people are someone I care for, work with or really need extra income. Should I just leave them alone? Are they willing to learn? Is it going to be easy?
And so apart from my newbie-ness as a blogger, learning website management and all else that needs to be learned in the internet, I’ve finally decided on one good, true thing. I will write an ebook that’s meant for would-be virtual assistants. Already half-way, nothing has ever inspired me so much more in terms of writing for others! Well, err… as opposed to those poems intended to make my husband love me all over again. LOL!
But really… I am so overwhelmed with what I’m doing right now. I get excited thinking this ebook would be done in time for Mothers’ Day so that it’s going to be my gift to others who in turn can give it to their mothers. So apart from my great gift bought a few weeks back, my Mom will get a piece as well. I hope she’d be proud knowing I’ve fulfilled a dream. 🙂
So, Erica. That’s my story. I hope to have shared a good one. And equally important, I hope I’ve put additional value to being a virtual assistant. Because there’s so many of us here and there who could really be a big help to small businesses and other endeavors. In the meantime, I’m getting geared up so that I could make the aspiring ones well-prepped and energetic at this service.
Until here, Erica. Thanks for this great space of letting others share their pieces. And as for my case, also unload! LOL!
See you around!
Not a P.S. at all!
